Phytohormones refer to the trace organic substances that naturally exist in plants that have a significant effect on plant growth and development. They are also called phytohormones or endogenous hormones. Its existence can influence and effectively regulate the growth and development of plants, including the whole life process of plants from cell growth and division to rooting, germinating, flowering, fruiting, maturation and shedding.

After understanding the structure and action mechanism of natural plant hormones, plant growth regulator is used in agricultural production through artificial synthesis of substances with similar physiological and biological effects to plant hormones, which can effectively regulate the growth process of crops, so as to achieve stable production and increase yield, improve quality and enhance crop resistance. The use of plant growth regulators is generally harmless to human health in accordance with the dosage, duration and method specified on the registration approval label. If there is any irregularity in the use, the crop may grow too fast, or growth may be suppressed, or even die. The quality of agricultural products will have some impact and harm to human health. For example, prolonging the storage period of potatoes, garlic and Onions with lycopene (inhibiting germination) has a carcinogenic effect. China's laws prohibit the sale and use of plant growth regulators without the approval of the state or provincial authorities.
