Zheng Xianfu, Chairman of Zhengshi Chemical, Shares Fresh Insights on Industry–Academia–Research Integration at Inauguration of Henan Agricultural University’s Excellent Engineer College
On the morning of April 27, the opening ceremony of the Experimental Class of the Excellent Engineer College at Henan Agricultural University was held at the Longzi Lake Campus. Professor Zheng Xianfu, Chairman of Zhengshi Chemical and a doctoral supervisor at Henan Agricultural University, was invited to attend the ceremony as a representative of cooperative enterprises and an outstanding mentor. Delivering a speech as a mentor representative, he offered profound insights into the cultivation of excellent engineers and the deep integration of industry, academia, and research from his dual perspective as both a “university researcher” and an “industry practitioner.”

Drawing on his personal experience, Chairman Zheng Xianfu shared four core reflections:
First, inherit the academic legacy while daring to break new ground. He encouraged students to systematically master classical theories while boldly stepping beyond disciplinary boundaries—paying attention to the intersections of life sciences, food science, electromechanical automation, and other fields, and having the courage to raise new questions and define new directions in "uncharted territory." Truly transformative technological breakthroughs, he noted, often originate from cross‑disciplinary integration.
Second, explore fundamental principles while keeping feet on the ground to solve real problems. He pointed out that at the graduate level, while pursuing academic excellence and cutting‑edge principles, students must firmly align their knowledge with national strategies and industrial pain points. He encouraged students to make full use of the platforms jointly established by the university and enterprises, to immerse themselves on the front lines of industry, and to confront real‑world challenges—from germplasm innovation and green input development to intelligent equipment—so as to complete the capability cycle from laboratory to production line.
Third, cultivate craftsmanship with a compassionate heart. He emphasized that outstanding engineers must not only uphold a spirit of craftsmanship—striving for excellence and meticulous attention to detail—to ensure the reliability of their outcomes, but also embrace a deep sense of respect and responsibility toward life, safety, and the environment. By holding fast to safety bottom lines and committing to the mission of health, they will be able to move steadily and far, becoming pillars of the nation.
Fourth, deepen collaboration and build a solid bridge. He called on colleagues from both academia and industry to work together to build a stronger bridge for industry‑academia‑research integration. He proposed that enterprises should engage with universities more proactively and openly—by establishing joint research projects, building collaborative R&D platforms, and participating in talent cultivation—thereby “translating” real‑world industrial problems into cutting‑edge academic questions and “feeding” frontline technical needs into the innovation training system. This will significantly enhance the relevance of talent cultivation and the smoothness of technology transfer.
In his concluding remarks, Chairman Zheng pointed out that the deep integration of biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and agriculture is giving rise to exciting “new quality productive forces.” Although he has retired from the university, his passion for agricultural science and education and his hope for industrial revitalization remain unchanged. He firmly believes that through close collaboration between academia and industry, the great questions of our time can be answered, contributing even more to the modernization of Chinese agriculture.
Chairman Zheng Xianfu’s speech closely echoed the core spirit articulated by Professor Yue Jieyong, Party Secretary of Henan Agricultural University, in his concluding remarks—namely, breaking away from closed‑door development, deepening industry‑education integration, and exploring a distinctive cultivation path unique to the university. From an enterprise perspective, Chairman Zheng also responded to the university’s vision of a “five‑true” training model that emphasizes genuine needs, genuine research, and genuine application.

Chairman Zheng Xianfu’s appointment as an outstanding mentor and his speech as a mentor representative mark a new phase of collaborative education in the industry‑academia‑research partnership between Zhengshi Chemical and Henan Agricultural University—a phase characterized by “co‑cultivation of talents, joint management of processes, and sharing of achievements.” As a national high‑tech enterprise, Zhengshi Chemical will continue to leverage its industrial and technological strengths in the agrochemical sector, deeply engage in the entire process of cultivating excellent engineers, and work hand in hand with Henan Agricultural University to contribute to nurturing a new generation of outstanding engineering talents who keep “the greater good of the nation” in mind and embody both craftsmanship and compassion.
